Courteney Cox Dishes on Returning to ‘Scream’ for ‘Really Good’ 6th Film (Exclusive)

Courteney Cox has not given up! Scream.ET’s Matt Cohen spoke to Cox about her Starz series at the FYC Event. Shining Vale — which has been renewed for season 2 — About the future of the show and about returning for the sixth installment in the horror film franchise.

Cox teased that he didn’t know much about contracts or where things are. But he would tell him in the script, it’s a really excellent one. Scream film due out March 2023. “You must actually be killed if your talk about it. So I’m not going to say anything.”

Scream isn’t the only thing she’s returning for, Cox told ET what she hopes is in store for her character, writer Patricia, “Pat” Phelps, come season 2 of the hit horror comedy.

“I was so lucky to be able to explore what I was able to in season 1, and I can only imagine it’s going to be even more,” Cox said about the show’s second season. “But everything from addiction to mental health to marital strife to moving and writer’s block. There were so many things I had to do — I had teenagers, one who was going through puberty, and one pushing my mom away — all of which I am very comfortable with.

Season 1 ends with Pat being admitted to a psych ward by her daughter. Cox explained that while this seems like a good ending for Pat, the possibilities for her character next year are “limitless.”

“I had so much. My character was multifaceted. Cox said that she can see it growing because, at the end last season, Cox was heading straight to a psychiatric ward. “I cannot even imagine what’s going to happen. It’s endless.”

Coco, her real-life daughter and who she shares with, was asked her what she thinks of her daughter. Scream co-star David Arquette, thought of the intense scene, Cox clapped her hands and joked, “Yay! Good job.”

Shining Vale is a big departure from her role as Monica Gellar on FriendsThe two shows share a surprising connection.

“On stage 5 which is where Friends Cox explained that she started by going to the attic, which is also where my character lives, and Rosemary visits Rosemary there. “I hope it isn’t covered up when we return. The commissary should be open. I want to be able to sit in the exact same place that we used to sit. [while filming Friends]Get the same salad. This is what I hope for.”
