I-70 Truck Driver's Sentence Reduced from 110 to 10 Years

Colorado’s Governor granted clemency to the truck driver who caused the accident that resulted in 4 deaths. Kim Kardashian was among those who supported his cause.

Rogel Aguilera-MederosIn 2019, he was driving an 18-wheeler when the truck’s brakes failed causing the terrible pileup crash. The mandatory sentence of 110 years was issued, but it was met with public outrage by those who felt it unfair and harsh considering the accident.

Jared Polis, Colorado Governor on Thursday, said in his clemency letters, “The crimes that you were convicted of, are serious. Four individuals lost their lives and others were seriously injured because of your bad decisions.”

He continued, “Though your actions have caused immense pain, I am encouraged by your personal reflection and the commercial vehicle safety changes that were made in the wake of this tragedy to ensure this type of event never happens again.”
